G. Holmes Braddock Senior High School Reviews

It's a good school however there are issues to be addressed...

By a Current Student on

It has good bones however if I am to rate the school I will grade it in categories.

Cleanliness: 4/10

The bathrooms at lunch smell like weed not that I'm a smoker, and when it's cleared out the bathrooms themselves make it difficult to even walk around them let alone in them. Walking inside the bathroom is worse I've walked in only to see fecal matter smeared on the walls of the stalls. (I WISH I was joking)

When it comes to the classrooms though they have one new building that is tidy if you will, the others are a different matter. The 1000-4000 buildings are old and are relatively dusty. The 1000 & 2000 buildings are probably the original buildings as it appears untouched or renovated, some of the roof tiles (if you want to call them that) are missing & if you have an elective in any of those two buildings be sure to not put your bags on the red plaster flooring as it will fade and leave the original color on your bag (I have a BLACK leather bag and I placed it down the first day now I & everyone in my class have NEON RED stains on our bags that refuse to wash out.)

Teachers: 7/10

Some are questionable (names withheld) as some are negative, pessimistic, & tend to linger on past events to throw it in our face the next failure (no one is perfect but if you are going to linger on past failures then just get out). Though some have the knowledge and ability to teach the lesson they lack the ability to spread that knowledge to the point that it sinks in.

There is security in Braddock but the only good one's are the one's who watch the cameras. All the other good one's are preoccupied at every single chance you see them. Leaving the horrible one's to regulate school rules. The horrible one's are most likely 50 or "wiser" (only trying to be respectful by not calling them old) there's an old lady in the 5000 building who sits at her mobile "bootlegged"* desk listening to her Spanish radio and stopping anyone from going to the bathroom or library by saying in Spanish "está cerrado" translation for the non-Spanish speaking individual: "it's closed" when you can CLEARLY see it's open!!!! I would get into detail of the others but that is already too much to type. There is one who is of the same age group of the "bad ones" but he greets you as you walk in and actually does his job by checking anyone who walks in during school hours who's not a student.

Students: 2/10

Now please keep in mind when I tell you I'm Hispanic and I am annoyed by every single "newly immigrated student" for lack of a better word because the usual word for them is derogatory, as none of them shut up, are loud as can possibly be and are most likely in a gang or skipping classes. Those Hispanic students who speak proper English that have most likely lived in America most of their lives are actually not bad as a matter of fact they are what make this school fun or interesting (which is why I gave this school a rating of 3 stars when it should have been a 1 if not negative 5) they are the backbone of this school.

In the end, the students make this school not the staff or administration...

As the bulldogs here at GHB say or have said, "We are bulldogs we stand for the pack by the pack!"

I'm a parent of 10 grade'student.  My son is really happy with the school and the team'teachers, he says,:Mom they are great!, but it's a sad abouts Gangs inside the school, they don't lets the student to do the regular activities in peace, all the time they like to fight wich any one, and I'm really worry for my son, because they don't live him alone. I think this school needs more security in the restrooms, in the cafeteria, and outside the school after 2:30 PM, to avoid fatal fight.
