Spanish Lake Elementary School Reviews
I understand it's very beneficial for our english speaking children to learn a 2nd language, but why does this school make it mandatory to mix the (english) language arts grade with the spanish and also recieve a seperate grade for spanish language arts? When I asked this question I was advised serveral times that "this is a bi-lingual school and it's been aproved by the state to teach 1 core subject in spanish and english"! This just isnt fair to those kids that dont speak spanish. They're not as attentive because they must wait until it is translated!!!!!!! What sense does that make ! Up til recently they didnt offer ANY english tutoring, only in spanish!!!! Is that crazy or is it just me!!? The bi lingual teacher doesnt communicate with the parents as often as they should to inform parents of our childs progress. I didnt find out that my child was being taken out for this new english tutoring until after the fact!! Who does this! I had to go to the school to find out this information. Then it took approximately 2 weeks before i got to speak with the tutor. They've had 3-4 assistant principals in the last 2 years. Unfortunately this is the school i'm assigned to.
It is sad to find that the teachers are sacrificing true interest and personal attention to the students because the schools main concern is to get the students to pass the FCAT test to maintain an "A School" reputation. Seems to be more like a Military School. Unbelievable amount of daily homework.
Unfortunately I have 2 kids going to this school. Both of my kids have complained that the teachers have embarrassed them by singling them out during class, and that the teachers shows favoritism toward other kids. When my kids have asked for help Teachers response have been, "I'm not going to repeat myself. You'l just have to ask a student after class."
