Tuskawilla Montessori School Reviews

Not for gifted children, or children who have never been in school setting before! Recently had to pull my preschooler out of this school for several reasons. Not disgruntled, just very wary of having 25 preschool/kindergarteners and only a teacher and an aide. After having to pick him up at the office more than once, where I found him in tears, I had a professional come in to observe, and was told that she would not recommend this school to anyone. The 30 minute circle time is very hard for many children, especially those who are a little higher functioning and require constant engagement and stimulation. For children who are accustomed to a classroom setting, maybe this result would be different. Additionally, administration was not willing to accomodate a "shadow" for my child (even though it was only for 3 hours- the half-day program), until he was able to get the hang of things. I was told he had to do it "on his own." After further investigation, every other school I looked into, was more than happy to accomodate someone else in the room to help him transition. Finally got him into a great program at St. Peter's in Lake Mary, where helping children adapt and learn is priority numero uno. Also to look out for at Tuscawilla is some dangerous playground equipment! I don't know how many children I counted having hurt themselves on the iron merry-go-round. (They did away with those in most parks because they are so dangerous!) Anyway, just make sure you sit in on classes and get the feel for how your child would do, before sending them here...

"This school has absolutely changed my son's life! He is a brilliant kid who has a learning disability, and the staff absolutely understands his situation and teaches the way he learns! They are so insightful, understanding and capable, I feel lucky that we are part of that community."

"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
