Riverdale Country Day School Reviews
I am not sure what to think yet. My child transferred there late in the year and her teacher was out on maternity leave. She was high functioning and as a result was transferred from the predominantly girls class to an all boys class. In this class she was told to complete sheet work and then watched "fun" non educational movies the rest of the day. As a teacher myself, I am not happy. I believe all students need lessons and learning opportunities--not babysitting. I had heard negative comments from professionals who have worked there, seen disapproving looks on other professionals faces when I told them that my daughter had been recommended for placement there. Still I will meet with the director and see what solutions arise from it. The staff and those working there are very friendly and nice. This is a harder situation to teach in and therefore I do not want to judge too harshly. However, I would like to see more activities and lessons related to learning happening for my daughter and other students. Without the actual class environment being geared to a regular school day I fail to see how any of these students will appropriately transition back to a regular education setting. Perhaps it was just the set of circumstances that my daughter transferred to this school with (teacher out on maternity leave, and the end of the year) I don't know, but I am sure going to find out.
