My child has been going to Kid's Community College since kindergarten, and I am very happy with the school. There have been concerns with turnover of teachers, but my personal opinion if a teacher does not want to be there or do what they are supposed to be doing, then they need to move on. The staff throughout the school have been very friendly and helpful. My child has progressed throughout the years, and has done well at this school. VERY HAPPY !

Great school, haven't had any problems with this school. My child needs to be worked with sometimes on a individual bases, and KCC has been wonderful on small group pull outs. All schools have situations and some are uncontrollable. As long as my child is happy, I will support the school through its good times and hard times, this is the only way schools can grow, through parent support. Happy Parent!

My child has been going to this school for 2 years. I can say that this school has worked very closely with him as an individual to make sure he is at the grade level he should be. There are small group pull outs for the children that need help and the teacher is always on top of what he is doing to make sure he doesn't fall behind. It saddens me to see negative comments about the school, but each family has their own personal experiences. Just like any other school, teachers do come and go which sometimes that is uncontrollable. I have another child that goes to regular public school, and he always has a sub because the teachers are sent to yearly trainings that they need. This is a small school which makes it personal, but is expanding, and I see the future to be positive. How can we make this a better school, by supporting the school through its ups and downs.

As a long time family attending this school, my experience with KCC is a polar opposite to the previous post. KCC has outperformed local, district and state performance averages in each year I've been here. They have rigorous academic standards and require a commitment from parents to be and stay involved. I've never been forced to pay a "fee" and have always understood the reason for fundraisers and the donations requested. I also see where these funds go as I attend the monthly board meetings where there is full disclosure of the activities of the school. I've always been extremely impressed with the staff to student ratios and the number of support personnel provided for my sons. KCC may not be the right choice for you if you are unwilling to partner with the school and live up to your commitments of being involved, volunteering and being a partner in the education of your child; however, if you are, this is a great environment I think. As for the things this small private school lacks, they certainly make up for it in my book in other ways. They also have many clubs for which students can be involved, so I'm not sure why the other review suggests otherwise. Perhaps this person didn't take the time to inquire or doesn't read the weekly email sent from the school advising about such activities. It's true that there has been turnover at this school, but what school doesn't have turnover? I've been happy with the changes made, we've always been kept informed about them and advised why they were necessary and in my opinion, they've usually been for the best. I've been at the school and preschool for 6 years, have referred 5 families that have come and we all share the same positive experience and can say that the Board, front office administration and many of the teachers we've had have been the same ones we've had for years.

Constant turnover in teachers and principals does not lend itself to a good learning environment. Just take a look at their test scores (well below the Florida average). They won't tell you this though, you will just hear, "we are an A+ school". Well, yeah, so is the crappy public school right down the road! Don't forget that mandatory "donation" or you are not welcome back. Happy to pay twice that much if the money was actually invested into the school and not paid to the principal/board president/owner (yes, he is the same person so don't expect there to be fair play) ... pay or leave! Ok, we are doing just that, along with half of my child's class. Taking our money, volunteer hours and dedication to a school that actually cares about our children and those that have dedicated their lives to teaching our youth. This school has 4 computers for the entire school and no library! Students expected to do a research paper but no computer access or even 1 lonely encyclopedia to be found anywhere in the school. The "good" reviews you see are most likely written by the front desk secretary (the owners wife) the principal (the owner) or members of the board that run the entire school. Amazing to me that a school caters to 10 people and the heck with the rest of them. Don't expect to be welcomed with open arms, you will most likely be snubbed, oh, unless you write checks or have a side business you wish to promote, then you will be welcome, but only for your money. I should mention, that in addition to paying a supply fee, you will be expected to furnish your share of office supplies and teacher supplies for the entire year. We wouldn't want them to actually pay for these items themselves. Hope you enjoy overcrowding, in the classrooms, lunchrooms and oh yeah, even the front office. Forget about meeting with the principal, he is never there. If you are lucky enough to be fit into his "busy" schedule, don't expect for him to be on-time to your appointment, the only persons time he values is his own....free-time, that is. Good riddance KCC...worst school decision we ever made. Can't leave you fast enough!

It is hard to think of this school as being a "family". Every year for the last 3-4 years KCC has had over 50% staff turnover. The administration does not seem to have loyalty to the staff or the students/families. I understand that as a charter school they are only partially funded through the county. I understand that this means we need to do fundraisers to make up the shortfall. I have no problem with the volunteer hours and fundraisers. I do however object to the fact that the "voluntary donation" of $375 is not really voluntary. If you do not pay it your child/ren will lose their spot. Also, it is required to keep your spot that you spend another $50 on the CAE. I do not think the extra money is justified by what you get at this school. Perhaps in a few years when they have their new campus and have better programs for the students. For example; choir, chess club, newspaper, book club, band, a music program... None of these programs are available at KCC. There has also been quite a turnover in Admin. I can't even remember how many principals have come and gone. There are 3-5 teachers who seem to be the "favorite children" of the admin. I have seen these teachers be wonderful and transcend my expectations. I have also seen these favorite teachers leave their classrooms for almost the whole day. They leave to take care of other duties and "lose track of time". If they are having a bad day the children definetely are aware and suffer because of it.
This is not a professional environment at all. My children will not be returning to this school. I realise it is not unusual to have a small portion take control of the pto or cpa, however, at KCC there is quite a strong group that has control and they do not welcome others into their little clique.

School choice is about being able to find the best possible fit for your child and making a conscious selection on what that institution offers that would be of most benefit to the development and growth of your child. Finding and selecting this charter school was one of the best educational decisions we've made. There is a great care, concern and love of instructing and learning that is evident from the highest to lowest level. We've been here since the beginning and every year it gets better and better. Sure, the great test scores are wonderful, but I'm more impressed on how my son and my family is individually respected and well treated. This is a great school!

Amy Soto: My son has been at KCC since he was two years old . He is now in second grade. i cannot say enough good things about this school! He is reading and doing math at third and fouth grade levels. He is excited about school and does not want to miss a day. My older son did not get the KCC experience and there is a noticeable difference in the education level. I actually feel guilty that he had to go to the local public school! The teachers have been awsome. My son gets bored easily and talks or disrupts class. His teacher has identified his strenghts and the things he likes and is giving him more work to keep him occupied. That way he is not disruptive AND he is learning even more! Most teachers would have just sent home bad behavior warnings and left it to the parent to figure it out. I really love the pro-activeness! I also can communicate with my sons teacher by e-mail on a regular basis, she lets me know what is going on and what I might need to help my son with. This ongoing communication is something I did not get in the regular public school. I now feel like I am a part of the education process.
I just can't say enough about KCC and look forward to my third son starting kindergarten there next year!!

After several bad years of public school, I moved my above average student to KCC. Public schools are only taught how to deal with kids who are behind, not ahead. I have found that he can be in a regular class with all of his friends, and he can still get the appropriate level of challenge from the work. I have a 4th grader and a kindergartner, and KCC will be the home for all of kids for as long as they can! I love it.

Proud Parent: My son is a kindergartener at KCC. We couldn't ask for more. The school is great from administration to the teachers, even volunteers. Everyday my son is not only greeted by his teacher, but everyone he comes in contact with. Everyone has a smile and is excited about learning. There is constant communication from the school and they highly encourage parent involvement. Most of all, my son comes home counting down the hours until he can go back to school. That speaks volumes. GO KCC COUGARS!
