About This School
Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. See Stars Middle School's test results to learn more about school performance.

Stars Middle School Reviews
It's a big chance for kids to get good grades and do extracurricular activities. The kids are not only doing regular school work, but also they are challenging themselves in the clubs and in the Saturday studies. There are athletic clubs as well as academic clubs. For instance Science Olympiad, Math Olympiad, boys and girls soccer/basketball/volleyball clubs, art and music clubs and it goes on and on. The good thing about the clubs is that they are for free unlike the other schools. The school really cares the kids. This school is not a money-based school. The only reason for the school's existence is to help the kids to build their future.
I have NOTHING but GREAT things to say about Stars. I have had two children graduate from Stars. My children were in the advanced classes and I feel that their education was very good. My son got a very high score (almost perfect) on the writing FCAT, higher than he had ever gotten at previous schools. The administration is strict, but neither of my children had problems. The teachers worked extra hours to make sure my children would do well on the FCAT. Often my child would go for free tutoring on Saturday for FCAT help. I have never heard of any other school doing this. I am very pleased with my children’s time at Stars and would highly recommend the school to others.
My child is a 7th grade student at Stars Middle School, and I have been VERY IMPRESSED and HAPPY with the school! The LEVEL OF COMMITMENT from the Stars teachers is unlike ANY I've seen before. The GREAT EDUCATION my child is receiving at Stars is the kind I would expect from a high-cost private school, not from a tuition-free charter school!
Within the first two weeks of school, teachers and administration had MOTIVATED MY CHILD to get involved in several academic clubs. I STILL can't get over the fact that my child, who can get good grades with very little effort and would normally want to spend his free time playing video games, now LIKES and WANTS to stay after school and go on Saturdays to LEARN MORE ABOUT MATH AND SCIENCE!!
The teachers at Stars CARE about challenging students to do their best and reach their full potential--no matter if a student is classified as "gifted" or one who struggles with learning. I would highly recommend the school, without reservation, to any parent or student.
I've really enjoyed my child's experience at Stars. Yes, a little strict- but overall very impressed with the school.
This school is a very unique school. We as students need to enrich our education, and that's what this school offers. The clubs here offer way more than any other regular schools. In the beginning I was not passing, but they set me down individually and personally taught me what I needed to know.
I'm a student here, and it is almost perfect in every way. It offers two language classes (Turkish and Spanish) that present educational and fun experiences. The clubs are awesome, too.
Several children have no desires to learn and some others are so arrogant that they think they know it all; therefore, teaching and learning is a kind of strugle in this school. I think it is not only in this school but the environment in general. I do believe that the children should be able to attend the classes they like the most as a compensation for actively participating in the classes they like the least. Children should be taken in consideration even for negotiation on their learning process. Parents should also be part of this process along with the school administration. Several children dislike the school because they are forced to do many things they are not interested in doing. I wish there would be a school where the children choose their own curriculum along with the parents and school administration.
My child has been attending STARS since the day they opened. I am very involved with the school. I even joined the PVO to assist the teachers, students, and other staff. There are some positive and negative elements about this school, just like any other school. SMS is a uniform school and I really like that. I believe the discipline is very direct. Sometimes to the extreme...That is an opinion of mine. The teachers are exordinarily great with my child. She has learned so much and made wonderful relationships with teachers and students alike. It is a hard school, but it is a good school. I recommend it to people almost everyday. To have a great school, more parents need to step up to the plate and pitch in.
We sent our child here after a very bad year in 6th grade at one of the other schools. The staff is very open to communication with us, and the small class sizes mean that the kids get the attention that they need. We have been recommending this school to other parents. While the music and PE programs are not what you would expect to find at other schools (very limited budget), the teachers compensate by being creative about how they teach the subjects. The extra activities after school are unlike anything I remembered from my middle school. It's a fantastic school!
TO ME AS A CONCERNED PARENT STARS MIDDLE SCHOOL IS THE WORST POSSIBLE CHOICE FOR YOUR CHILD. THERE ARE ISSUES WITH DRUGS, GANG TACTICS AND VIOLENCE THE ADMINISTRATION IS TERRIBLE...
MY KIDS WILL NOT EVER GO BACK TO STARS ! THE ADMINISTRATION HAS DENIED THEM DUE PROCESS! THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE KIDS! SOME OF THE TEACHERS ARE KNOWING, WATCHING AND DOING NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT THESE ISSUES. I THOUGHT SCHOOLS OF ALL KIND SHOULD HAVE A GENUINE CONCERN FOR THE KIDS SAFETY, WELL BEING AND EDUCATION. THE KIDS GET THROWN INTO I.S.S. REGULARLY. THEY DONT BELIVE THE OLD SAYING KEEP YOUR KIDS IN CLASS THEY FEEL THAT ANY AND EVERY EXCUSE IS GROUNDS FOR PUNISHMENT AND TO SEND THEM OUT OF CLASS. THE KIDS SCHOOL RECORDS ARE BEING MESSED UP BY THEM PUTTING STUPID ISSUES IN THEM, LIKE DRESS CODE, SHIRT NOT TUCKED IN CORRECTLY OR LIKE THE SHADE OF THE PANTS ARE TO LIGHT! (DONT WASH THEM YOU WILL BE FORCED TO BUY A NEW PAIR BEFORE THE CHILD CAN RETURN TO CLASS.) WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HONOR CLASS HONOR ROLL STUDENTS BEING PICKED ON TILL THEY LEAVE OVER DUMB THINGS. WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT SKIPPING AND OR SMOKING AND NOT EVEN BEING DISRESPECTFUL. THE KIDS AT STARS ARE CONDUCTING THEMSELVES MORE LIKE ADULTS THAN THE STAFF AT STARS AND THE KIDS ARE CAUSING FAR LESS DRAMA! THE STAFF AT STARS DOES NOT CARE FOR YOUR KIDS OR MINE THEY WANT THE PAY CHECK!!!!!!! I HAVE PROOF TO BACK UP WHAT I SAY.
Issues with fighting and drugs in the school. My child was harassed verbally.
Stars is a wonderful opportunity for parents who look for a small environment (17 students in a class), andfor students who look for many different after/before school activities, weekend activities, including Science Olympiad, Math Olympiad, Chess Team, Odyssey of the Mind, and many other clubs.
