Elizabeth Simons: The Thursday night of the first week of school, I got a phone call from the school board. They informed me that my son had been placed at Lomax. I had to at that point make up my mind if I was to place him there. I had never seen the school nor meet the staff. I researched the school online and the location…to say the least worried me. However, I knew that it would be a good experience for my son because of their focuses on math, science and technology.
The next day I took off and visited the school. I walked into the building with a warm and wonderful sound of the computer teacher playing a guitar in the halls as the children made there way to class. There were teachers hugging children and kids really enjoying the things around them. The office staff was approachable and friendly. There were kids in there that seemed to be at home. I knew from that point that this was the place for my son.
Don’t get me wrong, there has been some hurtles to over come but it is all worth the time and effort spent. My son is now striving in their gifted program and reaching heights in which it is hard to believe he is only in 2nd grade.
Trust me it is worth every minute spent trying to get your child here. Also, get active in the school. Join PTA and be involved. Your child will be rewarded and remember it in the long run.
