Such a shame that a school which started with such potential went down the slippery slope.  We stayed for years hoping the slow decline would stop, but it didn't.  Elitist mentality seemed to steamroller over the "children first" mantra.  Adult cliques (teachers, administration, and parents) became the norm, and children and parents were labeled, talked about, and ignored by the teachers and administrators.  Very young pupils were expelled (kindergarten) due to their reactions to bullies, but I never saw any of the bullies being asked to leave.  Any students who didn't fit the "mold" were made fun of, and teachers/administrators ignored the bullying.  There was pressure on parents to give, give, give, and preferential treatment was given to specific parents who gave lots of money but no time.  Those who gave time and energy rather than the green stuff were relegated to the corner.  There were learning gaps that, once I realized them, made me cringe.  There were days my children came home to do homework, and I had to actually sit down and teach them what it was they were supposed to have learned, because the teacher(s) didn't have time to teach it to them. It may have changed in the few years since we've been there, but I fear it hasn't.  If you're considering this school, make several unexpected visits before committing to it, so you can see what an average day is for the students.

I don't know where to start,I've been bringing my kids to the school now for several years and I heard from other parents about how my kids and their kids have heard teachers speaking in a very unkind way about other students that may be more challenging with behavior problems and how they complain so rudely about certain kids...

Shaye: I am unhappy about some of the new and old teachers of the school this year. They have talked very bad about some of the students when they're around and not in there presence. The teachers need to grow up and stop talking about the students in a very negative way.

amy: My daughter will be attending Brighten Academy this coming school year and so far just with the enrollment process alone, they have been really nice and it seems like she will fit in pretty well.  I just need to find out if their are any extra-curriculum activities she can become a part of to get her more involved in the school.  I look forward to a great year!!!
