Honaunau Elementary School made AYP in 2011. Under No Child Left Behind, a school makes Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) if it achieves the minimum levels of improvement determined by the state of Hawaii in terms of student performance and other accountability measures. See Honaunau Elementary School's test results to learn more about school performance.
I have seen the school go through beneficial changes eventhough it has made AYP for many years. Majority of staff is devoted, conscientious and put in long hours to better serve the students and strengthen their instruction. In December 2011 a new principal joined the school. She is a strong and caring individual who I feel will make a difference setting even higher expectations for her teachers...hurray for her!!!!In a small school like Honaunau all teachers should go the extra mile for their students, get them all on the same page. I have been pleased with my experiences and children's learning at Honaunau. It is important for all parents to support their child's learning with the teacher at any school. That is when you truly see success!
