My experience at Hilo Intermediate School varied from time to time. Overall, the school is alright--but it has a lot of room for improvement. The school buildings are currently undergoing renovation, but before, almost all of the rooms were infested with termites. I assume they're fixing that now. The cement and asphalt around the school is very cracked, and it is a tripping hazard. Paint is chipping off the walls. It isn't very clean, especially in the bathrooms. The teacher's attitude varies on the students that they teach. I have been in Gifted and Talented classes, and normal classes, and I assume that the performance of the students are based on their own efforts, because all of my teachers did the best that they could. The school's library is very old, and could probably use a couple of new books. The gym is in an okay condition, but it is very worn. Funding is tight, so there isn't enough textbooks in class, as well as materials, so teachers have to make do with other things, such as print-outs. The cafeteria is satisfactory. It isn't great, but it isn't horrible either. I'd suggest bringing your own lunch. Bullying can be a problem, even though the school has a policy against it.
