Voyager - A Public Charter School

we love this school. both my girls go here - aged 10 and 6 - and we are really happy with - among other things - their exposure to various cultures, their approach to community and our place in it, and their willingness to really listen to the students and the parents and take a good hard look at what does and does not work. my older daughter scores well on standardized tests and is pretty happy with the small class size and with the manner in which things are taught. our younger daughter is obviously too young for standardized testing. she is having some trouble with writing and spelling but the reports are detailed enough that we have a clear picture of what is going on. we have good rapport with the teachers, the office staff (including the principal), and a good feeling about the ptso. we couldn't be happier and would recommend this school to anyone - and in fact, we do.

We have enjoyed Voyagers integrated teaching methodology for 8 years and truly appreciate the dedicated, persistent and visionary teaching staff and principal. My children have continued to thrive at Voyager, and they have very different learning styles.  There are no cracks for children to fall through and each child is individually nurtured.  Learning teams are broken down into two-year groupings which allows children to learn more at their own pace. Voyager School is still in its original location, though, a converted warehouse in an industrial/ business district, and the playground is a public park.  Voyager has a good testing track record and has innovative partnerships with local arts and theater groups. It has also proven to be financially sound, though it has been challenged by inadequate state funding.  Currently there are plans to move into a nearby building that will be developed into a fully-functioning, state of the art urban school facility.  Our family's only regret is that the school does not continue thru high school.
