Hakipuu Learning Center - A Hawaii Pcs Reviews

Unprofessional

By a Parent on

So unprofessional.

Staff brings kids to work! Since when was that ok?!

This school enables students to "own" their learning. Although unconventional, and yes "relaxed", this school prepares students to meet the challenges of not just college but graduate school and beyond! Combining the true spirit of Aloha with truly useful skill building, HLC creates learners, not just students. While there is a thin line between family (ohana) and unprofessional. I know the staff is well meaning and I hope they learn to be more professional. I believe this school is head and shoulders above any other (public or charter) school in Hawaii. Although I believe that it is important to be professional, I know there are far more important factors in education than the ability to send a letter, check a box, or fill out a form.  You will get out of HLC what you put into it.

This school gives amazing opportunities for cultural education and resourcefulness.  Students have to be self-motivated, though, in order to benefit.  School funding is also a big challenge, and not always as well organized as you would hope.  And there could be a lot more focus on academics... parents have to supplement a lot at home. But for those magical students who are a perfect fit, it is like a Hawaiian Hogwart's. Amazing.

I know that this school has drastically changed my nieces outlook on high school.  She has attended since 7th grade and has had the best years so far of her education.  So I only know what I see from her and hear from her.  The project based assignments has brought out her individual and creative side.  She has gained alot of knowledge and hands on experiences by use of the Lo'i.  She really seems to always have some interesting stories to share because she is excited about school.  This school has really been a plus for my niece who before attending Hakipuu had a hard time in public school.

Because of her experience and how she has excelled and turned around her outlook on intermediate and high school, I would like to find out more about the 4th grade program.  I was skeptical about the curriculum but now because of my nieces experience I am not as much. And not skeptical in a negative way, skeptical from change and the unknown.   Can I get more information on the 4th grade program?  My children are currently at Kaneohe Ele.

Thank you,

Sheri
