Blackfoot High School Reviews
I went to Blackfoot High my junior year, I'm originally from Washington so when I transfered it was a culture shock. I was use to small groups in schools, but I've always been a floater between the cliques. When I came to Blackfoot I had to almost force my way in. One girl on my first day was so open and accepting of me being an outsider, another girl thought I was stupid because I didn't know what BHS was. It wasn't the average cliques I was use to, it was racial and religious cliques. People there didn't see it, but it was the first things I noticed. I loved my teachers. I had 3 specific teachers that helped me create a "home away from home." I litterally took classes to stay with certain teachers all year because I didn't know if I could make it, because students weren't welcoming. I didn't feel respected by some teachers, I felt like they assumed I was stupid or I felt their teaching skills weren't affective. When I fail a test that means I need help, not that I'm stupid and don't care about my grade. The counseling office wasn't that helpful to me either. Anytime I needed information I ended up doing it by myself. No joke, I've never met so many people who didn't want to go to college. Counselors are meant to guide us and help us discover what we'd like to do with our lives.
I wish I could've left a more lasting impression in Blackfoot High and got to know more people, but in all honesty, I didn't want to know most of the students. I didn't want to take the time and get to know arrogant people who disrespect teachers instead of learn. I didn't want to always talk about religion either. Kudos to the people I did become friends with and the wonderful teachers I had, because those people are the only good thing that has happened to BHS. They should be thanked everyday.
I wonderful education with outstanding teachers who really care. The facility is impressive and they offer a wide variety of courses. From auto mechanics to Zoology - the teachers really care. On the down side, I don't feel like they encourage all of the students to attend college. When I went there I received very little counseling regarding college option. Thankfully I was self motivated and it didn't stop me. I hope they they now emphasis how important it is to go to college, even if you live in a small town.
