I would say Takington is a great school to attend. The enviroment is very welcoming. The teachers there are very supportive and involved with the students, they really do care.
My teachers always give me the extra help if I need it, and are always helping students. A lot of the teachers who teach at Tarkington make it fun, thats what I really enjoy.

I think that the school show preference to their latino students. I myself had concerns about my childs class and addressed it with the school. For example when attending a school field trip with my sons class, his teacher read the instructions out loud to the parents about what was needed from them since we all were volenteering. This was perfectly acceptable. However the teacher only read the information in spanish. We I asked her if she was going to read it to in english as well she told me no, she figured I could read it myself. I took offense to that. Yes I can read english, however if you are doing something for one group of individuals it should be done for all.  Also there was another case where one of the teachers was seperating the pre-K classmates. The students that spoke spanish were taught things seperately from english speaking students. I also addressed this because this is a form or racial segregation. If I were able to place my child in another school I would do it in a heartbeat. But it is the neighborhood school and I am a single parent working full time with no other option.

"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
