Lincoln Park High School Reviews
Science program joke. Transferred from other Chicago area school.
Transferred to LPHS due to move. We came from a science oriented program. While science department has all the bells and whistles in advanced science class names, the courses were about the same as my kids were doing in 7th and 8th grade. They did very few labs and my kids say the lab equipment and number of labs were way below what they were used to. And that was my kids opinion, which I wouldn't expect to be so harsh.
I know they are ranked high in the state (#11 in 2013), but these are based on math and reading and NOT science. The US News ranking shows only 68% tested for the college readiness and only 49 of those passed. Only 60 and 65% of students that tested were found to be proficient in math and reading, respectively. Not too impressive for #11 in Illinois.
Definitely not the best school if you want your kid to have a career in science. Wish I'd known, I would have insisted on magnet or private school options.
I'm very happy my daughter went here. We were on the edge of choosing this school and Lane Tech College Prep. I originally thought that Lincoln Park would be a bad option for my daughter because of the neighborhood children from the bad districts. My daughter really was against Lane, while I was for it. I decided to let my child live her own life and let her try out LPHS. I was pleasantly surprised to find out my daughter had actually very much enjoyed her first month at the school, so I allowed her to stay a while longer. Every week I would ask her how she was doing in the school, if she'd made any friends, how her teachers' were, etc. More often than not, she had many good things to say. A friend of mine has a daughter that goes there as well and she always tells me how much her daughter enjoys the school and the people. My daughter always tells me about how happy the students are and how much they have fun at school, even with the academic pushing. I will recommend this to anyone looking for a good high school in Chicago!
