Marine Military Academy High SchoolThis school is infested with gangs and gang activity. The area is not safe at all, my daughter goes to this school and she has been jumped a few times her freshman and sophmore year. I would rather send her to Clemente or Amundsen. The building is very old itself and it shares with another rival school so there are fights, so my daughter tells. I have transfered my daughter to Steinmetz Academic Center and she is having a great and more efficent time geting a education there.

4I love this school.. My son is a sophomore this year. The new principal has really changed the school culture. There is not gang infestation as previously stated. The teachers are wonderful and really care about the kids. I am very pleased with school and the staff

Marine Military Academy High School
1Freshman parent: This school is amongst the worst that CPS has to offer. The school is a gang infested, drug ravaged battlefield located in one of Chicago's most poverty stricken neighborhoods. My son was robbed twice in that school, once by an upperclassmen and once by one of the many gang members residing in the neighborhood. This school is definitely not a place of decency, respect, safety, learning and sure as heck not a place of discipline, which is ironic considering it's a military academy. I am utterly displeased with the school and i know many parents who feel the way i do. Just a few days ago, a student put his hands on a Lt Col at the school. That is just shameful; I wonder why the veteran didn't press charges. The school is just a mess; it has not enough space to support an actual college prep curriculum, but instead has very few electives and a curriculum ideal if you want to enlist or become poorly prepared for college.
I'm very thankful to have had my son transferred out of that school, and i hope if any parent comes across this, to do the same for your child.

1I am a student in the Marine Military Academy, and i went into the school hoping for a safe, disciplined and stimulating learning environment but instead found a mediocre curriculum school located in a highly dangerous and poverty stricken neighborhood and a place in which gang fights inside the building occur weekly. The students are anything but disciplined,...most teachers can care less about the students, and the school puts as much emphasis on military instruction as possible. There are a few upperclassmen who attend class only four times a month and spend the rest of their days twirling rifles and drilling. I feel i have not learned anything of value since attending this school and am anxiously waiting for the year to end and to hopefully transfer. This school is a deplorable place to be in and the absolute last place you would want to send your child for an education.

1I am a parent, and my son has been in this school for three years. I don't think this school is interested in education as much as they are interested in drafting new recruits to the military. They focus on military more so than education which is not the main purpose of school... It is suppose to be education! I am really looking to transfer him out as quickly as possible.

1Every year Marine Military Academy gets worse. The students are fighting. The older kids are picking on the younger ones... I am also not very pleased with the teachers. They definitely brush students’ minds to go in the army and fight. This could be also seen from the Eisenhower Drill competition where students participated as armed Platoon military army. If you don’t want your child to go in the army, I would suggest you send them to college prep school.

1I am the parent of a cadet, who is going to Marine Military Academy. I am very concerned about the education of my child and her safety. There are fights constantly in the school, which also takes lots of time from the instruction. The fights come from the fact that there is no consistancy. Also, students are not challenged. The classwork is minimized with 50 percent.
I am planning to move my children out from this
school and enroll them in college prep school.
So many parents and students think that the place of the principal and the assistant principal is not in the classroom.

1I have been going to Marine Military Academy for two years and I am very disappointed. Having the experience being there, I have come to the conclusion that it is not the school that is described by the information provided by the administration.
Students are not getting any homework, which doesn't teach them any core values, and the work load in class is very minimum. The reason about this is because students are not used to do their homework, and teachers and administrators are not able to instill this value for the students. The work load is minimized abd there is no homework because this is thepolitice of the school, to pass AYP because if students don't do their homework and classwork, they need to fail the class. Also, they are expelling students all the because the teachers and administrators don't know how to instill in the students positive character development. There are lots of fights, and students bring contrabands (knives, fireworks, guns) in the school.

1Mathew's mother: My children go to Marine Military Academy, and I have NOT been pleased with the education that they have received. The teachers and staff are NOT friendly and they DON'T care about the students. Also, I DON'T feel safe sending my children there to be educated by people who need more practice with the subject they are teaching.

Marine Military Academy High SchoolSarah's Mom: I am a the proud parent of a female cadet at the academy. I served four years in the Army, and wanted my child to experience the discipline, respect, and leadership, which she was only bound to obtain by actually joining any of the branches of service. Fortunately for me, CPS open various military academies around and in the Chicagoland Area. I am impressed with the entire faculity, whom appear to really care about our children. The military staff is exceptional, and are instrumental in teach our children core values.
Keep up the good work Marine Military Academy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
