Morgan Park AcademyThis places has lain off many employees unfairly and has suffered greatly with the recession. It's administrative staff are rude and believe it or not they have stolen past employees possesions when they were lain off! Can you imagine to be lain off and then to return to get you personel items and find them gone? What an example to the school children that they serve. There are many employees that were lain off that have taken them to court and are under the "gag order" and there for can not speak about the conditions for employees that are working in the administrative offices!

5Morgan Park Academy is one of the best schools in chicago. I will never send my daughter back to a public school again. My daughter is in the sixth grade, when she was in the fifth grade she was doing presentations. How cool is that. The teachers are excellent at Morgan Park Academy, they push your child to excel and exceed in everything. My daughters was also invited to other children houses and parties of all races. She has many friend of different ethnic group. This school is like a campus. Things she will deal with in life she is getting it here at MPA. This school is ahead of times. This school is for children who are advance or willing to work hard, and take on the challenge. You can only hate this school if your child cannot succeed here or if you can't afford it and want to take it out on the school. Parents work together, they plan together and they stick together. There is no racial diversity at MPA. Parents, Teacher, and Students keep up the good work. That's the MPA Way!!!!!!!!

Morgan Park AcademyWhen looking at schools, there is good, bad and ulgy. My child has been at The Academy for 7 years. I have seen many changes in the school some good some not so good. For my child there was lack of communication by some of the teachers, not all they are revamping lower school but, some of the children that are being admitted are not up to par. As the person stated on ther review for May 19th 2010 my experience is isolated is completly false. I have invested time being HIGHLY involved in the mothers club, long before the current mothers club president. If what is going on so isolated then why are so many parents pulling their kids for bullying other kids making racial comments to other kids when you try to inform the adminstration, nothing is done and that is why toward the end of the school year a freshmen beat up an 8th grader. MY child is begging me not to go back, but because of where I live I have no other choice I am also praying that it will get better and each year it does not. I think that MPA could be a great school but there are no punishment when rules are broken. MPA has given my child the chance to do many things which I love but, I have looked behind the curtin and it is not pretty, this year has been so focused on raising money not making sure that the kids following the rules that they have set in place. At the Academy only a few parents I know are pulling out their kids because of money and some others like myself because there is not place else to go. Believe me I am not alone in my feelings. I did think that when searching for a school you should talk to other parents, those that are highly involved and those who are not. The issue is not academic it is social and it is not all it is some.

5... People rely on objective commentary when researching schools.
...my children ...have not experienced any of what was described above and we are African American and the president of the Mother's Club is African American and several administrators and teachers are also African American. I have several friends and family members that have matriculated through the school from 1st grade all the way through HS as far back as 35 years ago.
Perhaps your experience is an isolated incident which has jaded your view of the school and should not be projected on to others!
For anyone researching MPA, please do not allow one person's experience to shape or influence your view of the school. Talk to other parents and students first.

Morgan Park AcademyI have a child that currently attends MPA, the school is ok. They say that they pride themselves on racial diversity, but that is the biggest LIE of all. White parents want there children to associate only with other white children or non-black children. This is one of the most divided schools by race that I have ever seen. You would think that you were back in the 60's, children of color (black) are not given the same sense of fairness as others. But I will say that not all parents are like that but there are enough to make a difference. if you are looking for a school the is well rounded this is not the place for you. Try LAB, Latin, or Francis Parker. This school is just too behind the times with their way of thinking and doing things, they get behind a problem, not in front of it. It is really a shame.
