Northside College Preparatory High School Reviews

Dissapointment

By a Current Student on

I have been very disappointed at my experience here.  The teachers here don't teach you anything at all and expect you to know everything. You have to teach yourself everything and the amount of homework that you get plus having to teach yourself every single subject is ridiculous. The staff is very unhelpful and  the majority of which don't try to connect with students at all. This includes the teachers, staff, and counselors. Honestly, the #1 ranking of this school is only because northside accepts the best students in the city. The school isn't very collaborative and the majority of my peers here truly hate being here.

Don't make a review unless you went all four years

I'm a current NCP senior and I think it is a great school. Yes, the teaching methods can be odd to those who are not familiar with the way NCP teachers teach, but they are very helpful. A lot of classes use the libertarian method of teaching, unless they are advanced classes. The classes are challenging. The other review made it seem like it was easy. Honestly, freshmen classes are easy and are not expected to be as hard as upper class courses. AP Biology is definitely a difficult class, along with most of the AP courses. Our honors courses are manageable so long as you stay on task. If you are planning to go here you should know how to manage your time well. Most of the students keep a high GPA while participating in several after school activities. If you're looking for a safe school with great recognition and academic standing, then you should absolutely consider NCP.

I hated the school my first year to. It is a big difference to get used to. The teachers teach differently and just a lot is different. IMP math is annoying but the idea is to challenge us to get ideas on our own. The kid above obviously did not stay long enough to get the NSCP experience which I now enjoy.

It is a wonderful school with great, dedicated teachers!

I went to this school thinking it was the best school in the state. I was dead wrong. The staff is terribly mean there. They do not help you at all with anything. I couldn't even go to my counselor because she never had enough time for me. Most of the teachers aren't very good. The staff is also way too defensive when it comes to the school. One day, I merely suggested to a teacher that the school should have a football team to get funded more by the government. All hell broke loose. The IMP math program is terrible. It didn't teach me anything. The only class I found to be remotely challenging was World Studies. Additionally, these classes may be honors level , but they are not challenging at all. Do not listen to people trying to scare you and tell you this school is hard. I never even studied and I still got good grades. I ended up transferring to a suburban public school after less then a year at NCP. Let me tell you one thing, the honors classes in my current school are 20x more challenging, but the amazing teachers make up for it.

I would recommend going to this school if you don't have the option of going to a private or suburban school. It is extremely safe compared to other cps schools. I also understand that the education is better than other CPS schools. I am just letting you know that it is not nearly what you expect it to be.
