Decatur Central High School Reviews
Bullying is running wild in this school. The kids are cruel. It is not a good environment for anyone who has anything wrong with them, or have any reason to be bullied. It will be taken to extremes, on the bus, on the way to class, during class.
Although I only have my high school to compare DCHS with, I expect more from a school. The teachers seem to me, more concerned about 'completing' the lesson, rather than 'teaching' the lesson. My daughter is in her senior year. She has not passed the ISTEP math portion. Yet they have advanced her each semester/year to the next math class in line. This is only one of the issues I have with the high school. I remember when I was in school, the feeling I had being in school was one of "all for one and one for all'. We had school spirit. With the small learning communities, I think DCHS has lost that.
This is a wonderful school, I wish I could get a job here.
I love our school. I've been attending decatur township schools all my life. Sure, there are some downfalls to DCHS, but overall, it's very well structured. I will admit, it hasn't been pleasant being in several schools that have either just been rebuilt or are still in construction (Stephen Decatur was being redone when I was there, DILC just got finished, and now the highschool is still in construction). Besides that, the learning enviroment isn't so bad besides the occassional fights, but all schools have them. One thing I do not like is having police officers everywhere in here and I don't like all the differing hallway rules depending on which SLC you are on.
There is not enough emphasis or help for special needs
children. I have a grandaughter in high school who is mildy
mentally challenged and I do not feel the teachers are giving
her enough help and that due to this she will never be able
to get a diploma. I also blame this on the "no child left behind".
She is going into her sophamore year and has yet to pass an
