Northwest High School

Brian H: I graudated from Northwest High school in the early 90's.  Entered college and realized very quickly just how far behind I was compared to other students my age was leaps and bounds ahead of me and I was in the advanced class programs all through high school.  From what I have heard the school has continued to decline.  What is sad though is a majority of the people want to blame the school for all the problems but I for one think they need to look at the parents.  Even when I was there it was so easy to see that many parents only viewed a school as a free baby sitter.  There kid was not bothering them and they knew there kid was being fed.  The parents had no responsibilty for making sure their child behaved and was not disruptive in class.  Until we institute measures that force these dead beat parents to become involved in their children's lives in a positive way and also be responsible for their kids actions then this behavior will continue to spiral out of control.  I was blessed to have parents involved in my life and who pushed me to always do better and also gave me positive re-enforcement in my life.  Such a large percentage of these children can break the cycle if only there parents were better parts of their lives and become involved.  It is a sad cycle in many ips homes that needs to be broken.
