The Montessori Academy At Edison Lakes Reviews
This school is not for everyone and they let you know it
The school is not for everyone. There is a very specific philosophical mission and it takes a leap of faith to understand how it benefits the child - if you stay through 8th grade. Many of the graduates have done very well and the parent involvement is excellent. The children do not receive any grades and they have the same teacher for a three year academic cycle. They are expected to learn advanced planning skills and work through the curriculum "at their own pace" to complete 100% of the work assignments at 100% accuracy (except in junior high). The higher up your child goes through the school, the less "montessori" it is. "Go at their own pace" and "choose their own work" at a curriculum level two years advanced over the public school system takes a beating on their ego, particularly in the upper elementary years if your child is not academically gifted.
It is very expensive in comparison to other private school options and the retention rate for most families over time is not great. If you are looking for a bully proof bubble for the economically advantaged, non sectarian, then check it out. There are observation windows where visitors can observe the classrooms in action.
Best School in the Area!
I can not tell you enough how much we love this school! After touring so many schools (public, parochial and private) in the area, we were convinced that this was by far the best. We were not proven wrong. Our child has thrived in this setting and I am so pleased with the challenging curriculum, creativity and engaged teachers and staff. It was such a relief for us to find such an incredible school after moving here from out of state. Highly recommend it!
We moved our children from prairie vista and it has been the most amazing experience! It's a family! There has been Zero bullying in this school! They teach them compassion, manners, kindness, generosity, etc etc.... As well as very strong academic skills. You will never find all these qualities in a public school!
This is our son's 4th year at The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes. We have found it a safe, nurturing environment with thoughtful respectful students and a most attentive faculty.
We have been proud and fortunate to be a part of the community at The Montessori Academy at Edison Lakes for nearly 20 years having had 3 children graduate and our last child in a few short years. The influence of this nurturing environment allows children to thrive and reach their full potential. I would encourage any parents that are not familiar with the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori to take the time to do the research. Read about her philosophy, then visit the classrooms at TMA and see it come alive. You will see not only outstanding academics, but also an environment that fosters respect for self, others and the world around them. You will see why this school is like no other. We as parents are charged with the responsibility to seek out an environment where our children will flourish. Our family has made choices and sacrifices to send our children to TMA, but have never regretted it for one minute.
This is a great school and great community to be a part of. We have been a TMA family for over a decade and still marvel at this great school. The academics are first rate, the teachers are compassionate and encouraging and the community is warm and supportive. Montessori is giving our children the tools to succeed in high school, college and beyond.
