West High School Reviews
I think every person will have their own opinion about their high school, but I thought it was an overall great school to attend. Every group of friends has their own "clique." I think it is important to become involved in school functions. Students will make more friends and won't have to worry about discrimination if they stay busy and contribute to the school system. I'm guessing that T Collett hated this school because they weren't apart of anything the school had to offer. The teachers were great and very understanding. There is always that one teacher that people dread having (probably because they just want to retire) but they all offered to help outside of class if you needed it. Plus, the advanced classes really helped you prepare for college. Some students bring a negative attitude to school and expect people to treat them like royalty. Students need to work for the respect of their teachers and classmates. If you can't give it then you don't deserve it in return! Davenport isn't the nicest neighborhood, but it's still a great school to get a great education.
I am a former West High student. I HATED this school with a passion. There was lots of bullying, violence, and discrimination. I was a victim when it came to the bullying and nothing was done about it. I have 2 sons of my own and don't want to send them to West High at all. I have heard that it has gotten much worse since I left there and I wouldn't recommend this school to any parent whose child is going to start their freshman year at this school. I guarantee that you'll be discriminated against. You're child will be placed in some clique and if you're kid isn't good enough to hang with, they'll most likely be bullied and there are a lot of rich, snobby kids who are very judgemental. If you're not rich and snobby, you're just not good enough. That's just how it is at West High. Been there, done that, HATED IT and never supported that school.
I have been disappointed in this school the entire time my stepson and 2 step daughters have gone there. My step daughters were harrassed by 2 different bullies that were suspended and kicked out of the school numerous times. This continued every begining of each school year. The bullies were never held accountable when they bullied my daughters. This year one of my step daughter's car was stolen, on school property, by her 15 year old boyfriend and two friends that were skipping school. The school did nothing to these kids that could of killed someone considering none of them had a license or driving experience. Now today my daughter was suspended for inappropiate behavior with her boyfriend. They were kissing on a bus to a show choir competion. Once again nothing was done about the boy. She is denied her education by not being allowed to go to school tomarrow, the boy has not been suspended and no one has even talked to him about the inappropiate behavior. I'm very confused about this and the school response in every incident that my girls have been involved in... were not allowed to share any information about other childrens consequences with you. I don't need to know the consequences, I just want to hear back from my kids that the other children were not in school the next day since the school has no problem suspending my child. Apparently at this school, if you are of any nationality except white, you can do anything and get away with it. My daughter's boyfriend is Asian. We have zero tolorence for discrimination in our house, but I am starting to feel this school supports discrimination of white skin children. I feel all children should be held accountable, equally. My daughters are getting A,B, & C's yet I barely see them bring home school work. If they have failed a test they were allowed to go in early to make up the test, repeatly if necessary, to get a passing grade. So if you just want your child to ease through high school, this is the school for you. We are going to send my youngest daughter to a privete school for we are fed up with Davenport West High School.
