Harlan County Christian School Reviews
Not good in a lot of ways.
It was not a good school in some ways. I have left it a few years ago.
PROS: teaches good math, teaches about god, it has gym(cheap, but its a gym), teaches some good values about life that you already learn at sunday school and church,
CONS: The kids are not learning enough, i heard from a classmate recently that is attending it and he said its "easy, they hardly make us do anything", there is a 9th and 10th grade there but it has no teachers (students are taught with dvds which is not good because its too easy for them, there are 40-60 kids there i believe, the kids do not get the social skills they need there because there are no extra activitys except for basketball last i heard which has just a few people and there is just around 50 or 60 kids, the high school does not have any extra activitys at all, in some classes there are not any girls which is bad because kids need to know how to act around girls, it use to teach very very good english by mrs. williams but she retired and i have heard from students that the replacement english teacher is "really easy, hardly any work", I personally thought that some of the teachers reacted over small things, I now attend harlan independent (ranked number 8 in state) and kids dont get in trouble for just goofing around a little such as times when they are not in class because kids at the christian school would get in huge trouble over stupid things and most students didnt like it, the kids stay in one class room all day, some kids get sent there after they have no other school to go to and you might not want your kids hanging around those people(only a few like 5 bad kids at most have been there, but some are pretty bad and its kinda sad.
if your thinking about sending your child there i recommend you do not. If you live in harlan county then the best school for your child is the indepentent school. Even though its a public school you still learn about God there and they are ranked number 8 in the state of kentucky. Your kids can learn just as much at church as they teach at the christian school. And if you really want your kid learning about god at school, there are christian groups your child can join at the school. I regret going to hccs sadly because ive seen it deprive social skills from a lot of kids including me some. Some of the people there are really nice though. If you want your kids to have it really easy then send them to the hccs. the highschool has maybe 4 people at most. I know a student that is pretty messed up from going there his hole life... Its sad because he tryed to go to a public school but he couldnt take it (even though i and many others were nice to him. no one was mean. he left after 2 days. He did not have any social skills to be at a school with average teenagers. He wasnt use to a school with just 300 kids and thought it was huge.) Your kid needs social skills. (you dont want to be socially awkward). ( I am NOT saying every christian school is bad, my cousin goes to a big nice one.) One thing that gets me and others former classmates(that have left) mad is when the teachers say how bad every public school is. that it is evil and so much sin and that the teachers wont care at all for you. I use to believe that before i actually started going to a public. i quickly discovered otherwise. Public schools are better. Most the students at a public school are good kids. Not "sinners" in their words.
it made me mad after i left hccs and found out how good a public school is. Hccs needs to do somthing to get more kids, they should not have made a highschool yet. after they get more kids have extra activitys, have certified teachers instead of just a couple being certified. If you decide to send your kids there make sure that they are in activitys like camp nathanel, church activitys, boyscouts or somthing like that because that makes a huge difference. One last thing id like to say is that the christian school did teach me good values. I also learned it at church but it did teach me good values. And i really liked some of the teachers there because they were good people. I did not mean to offend any one by this review over the hccs. have a good one
