McKinley Middle Magnet School Reviews
MCKinley MM is a good school - BUT.....
McKinley Middle Magnet School has a great culture and great leadership. As a former administrator and parent of a student that attended the school, I was very displeased with some of the teachers grading system and the lack of "oh well" some had with the students... There was a teacher in math who made test scores 90% of her grading. If students weren't excellent test takers, they were in trouble. She allowed no late assignments, that she gave 1 or 2 points for, no extra credit or outside assignments that were worth more than 2 points. This is sad for EBR, the school and the administration that allows this kind of assessment to go on. Parents have complained, even up to the district level and she is still doing the same thing. I was a principal in Texas before moving to BR where my husband's job moved us. If I were in that school system, she would be looking for another job. All kids do not learn the same, and some are just not the best test takers.
McKinley is a GREAT school. They expext the very best out of their students while at the same time encouraging them to excel in various visual and performing arts. My oldest daughter is in her last year at McKinley and loves the school. They have wonderful facilities. The faculty and staff give their best and expect the best from the students. My two youngest look forward to being old enough to attend.
