About the MEA
What is it?
The Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) is an annual test used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.
Which Grades and Subjects?
Students are assessed in reading and math in grades 3 through 8. In grades 5 and 8 students are assessed in writing and in grades 4 and 8 in science.
How is it Scored?
Students are scored at four levels: exceeds the standard, meets the standard, partially meets the standard, and does not meet the standard. The goal is for students to score at or above the standard level.

The Maine High School Assessment (MHSA) is an annual test used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.

Students are assessed in grade 11 in critical reading, math and writing.
How is it Scored?
Students are scored at four levels: exceeds the standard, meets the standard, partially meets the standard and does not meet the standard. The goal is for students to meet or exceed the standard level.
