Friends Community School Reviews
Initially, we were very excited about attending this school, as we love the Quaker philosophy and tenets that the school is based upon. In practice, however, the school offered little more than your typical public school. There was no willingness by the teachers or administration to meet the individual needs of students, unless the students were performing below grade level. Gifted students, or students with special needs, such as dyslexia or sensory processing disorders, were not provided even modest assistance.
This progressive school in a brand new green LEED certified building has been a wonderful experience for our family. We have a very happy first grader. The school's focus on the whole child is a contrast with our local public schools, and it's affordable compared to similar schools. Great faculty and the new head is fantastic so far - excellent with parents, students and teachers. There are interesting new developments with art, music, science, computers and afterschool programs and the new field will have athletics close behind. Note the address listed here is not current, it's off Kenilworth Ave between Greenbelt and Berwyn Heights now.
