Hammond High School Reviews
Disappointment is the best description of my feelings. My 9th grader (straight A in GT program) is having a very easy time - no challenge in the core classes. May be more a county problem since, for example, first quarter of math is just review of 8th grade. Most of his friends also have same experence - Hammond Middle was much more challenging. All his teachers are very nice caring with the kids, just not inspiring teachers. Homework averages about 30 minutes per week (not day), since most can be done in class.
Hammond high has lost it's rating my first child graudated from Hammond high in 2006, no problem during her time there, now I have another child that is attending, and big difference, they have a high turn over rate, in faculty and staff, very unprofessional, some of the teachers are very unorganized, unable to reach the principle. When you leave a message never get a call back. I know some kids are very disrespectful, but why take it out on the ones who are there to learn, and case no trouble.
Hammond High is one of the most diverse schools in Howard County, everyone is so different and brings something new to the school. In Hammond the teachers are tolerant and supportive. The students are great but like in every school there are the rotten apples however, overall it is one of the best experiences of my life and I love it!
Hammond High may not necessarily have the best reputation, but I cannot think of a school I would rather have high schoolers attend. The best aspect to the education is the school spirit and sense of community you feel being a Golden Bear. Most teachers are very experienced and a vast amount of knowledge can be learned in this wonderful environment. Hammond has been great to me the last three years and I wouldn't want my children to be anywhere else.
