Thomas Johnson Middle School Reviews
Thomas Johnson Middle School is one the PLTW - Gateway Schools in PG County
The TJMS offered quality STEM program (PLTW Gateway To Technology (GTT). GTT started in 2012 with one teacher, Mrs. Daisy Rayela. She gives her students hands-on activities, involve her students in competitions always engage her students in project/problem based-learning. My child is one of the students in her class.
She regularly holds STEM Family Night to involve TJMS parents in STEM activities. Because of the STEM Program of the school, TJMS won as one of the STATE Finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition in 2013-2014 SY. In 2013, the MSDE conducted STATE Evaluation of the Gateway Program. The team observed classes and interviewed the students. Evaluation resulted to expansion of the STEM program (1 GTT teacher was hired and a STEM coordinator) so that more students will avail of the program.
