The Maryland State Assessments (MSA) are annual tests used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.
Students in grades 3 through 8 are assessed in reading and math.
Students receive a score of basic, proficient, or advanced. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
The Maryland High School Assessment program (HSA) includes annual tests used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.
High School students are assessed upon completion of courses in English 2, Algebra, Biology, and Government.
Students receive a scaled score for each test. Passing scores for the HSA are 412 for Algebra, 400 for Biology, 394 for Government and 396 for English 2. The percentage of students to score at or above the proficient level are shown here. Starting with the class of 2009, students must pass all tests to graduate.
