About This School
Magnet schools are public schools that offer a specialized curriculum or educational philosophy, often with a specific focus or theme. Magnet schools promote student diversity because they are open to students outside the normal school district boundaries and often attract high caliber students through competitive programs. Williamsport Elementary School Reviews
My oldest son went from Tuscarora ES in Frederick to Hickory ES in Williamsport in October of 1st grade. He and his older step-brother (now 5th grade at Hickory ES) were both stunned by the foul language and poor behavior exhibited at their new school. It was a no-brainer to test my son in Williamsport's magnet program which runs from 2nd-5th grade. The second grade magnet program is excellent, with each child having his/her own laptop to follow along with the teacher -- keeping up with technology by using up-to-date programs like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. Most amazingly, my 2nd grade son went from having to "learn" to spell words as simple as "I", "me", and "by" in 1st grade at Hickory ES to words like my all-time favorite: "thoroughbred", as if "thorough" isn't enough! Now mid-May, I guarantee my 2nd grade son can spell words that many University students would have trouble with. Heck, I'm a former college newspaper editor, and I've gotten a couple of his words wrong, despite being a very good speller. I only know about the magnet program and cannot comment on the rest of the classes at Williamsport ES, an excellent place for your very bright child.
