Great school, though I was going there in the late 1990's. In the '90s, the music & arts department was one of the strongest parts of it. The conductors were wonderful, at a high level, as well as befriended all of the students in a way that made us look forward to class.
Unfortunately, both Mr. Ken Hanson (orchestra), Dr. Fred Harris (band), and Dr. Bill McManus (head of music dept.) have all retired or moved on after many years. The new conductor, I have heard a lot about is not comparable. Improving, but not warm hearted and very different style.
Latin was a lot of fun; same teacher currently. ;o) And the writing/English department Honors class teachers were wonderful, though some of them tough. Unfortunately, my 2 favorite ones have retired in the English department.
Principal has also retired - was best of the best and befriended every student in the school. Have not heard enough feedback about the new one, but seems to have settled in well.
Graduation All night party is so important, and BHS does an excellent job with this. My whole class had an unforgettable time at it with so many tears, hugs, dancing, flashing pictures, etc.
I'd recommend Belmont High School, though always best to talk with students and their families with feedback about teachers and departments.
