Personally, I had a very positive experience at Lawrence Academy at Groton. The school was founded in 1793 - it's one of the top 10 oldest schools in the US - so when you come to the school, at first it's a bit daunting; however, there are many activities to help students get over that.
At Lawrence I had mostly good-to-great teachers, whereas at my previous school I had just one great teacher and many ordinary ones. I think that that's what sets apart Lawrence from most other schools. The teachers there, 9at least when I went,) really cared.
Lawrence is known as the most "liberal" school in the ISL - for example, you don't have to wear a uniform at Lawrence whereas at most of the other ISL schools you do. Also, there are make-your-own course features at Lawrence that the other ISL schools don't have.
In my opinion, the kind of student who would do well at Lawrence is an open-minded, either arts or liberal arts oriented student who is somewhat self-motivated, (although the rigorous classes certainly provide motivation if yours is lacking.)
The Lawrence Academy alumni network was helpful in both getting me into college, and finding me work in my field. I recommend it highly.

Also, the information on the profile above is incorrect -- Lawrence Academy is co-educational, not "all-girls." Thank you!

I was very nervous on first arriving at boarding school - nevermind that it was Lawrence Academy at Groton, an in situation founded in 1793 that has graduated numerous America luminaries.
In my opinion, the only reason I was admitted to such a prestigious prep school was that I tested well on the SSATs. I'd been a B student previously. At Lawrence, however, I excelled academically. The study hall hours made a lot of difference.
Ultimately, Lawrence enabled me to gain entry to a top-notch college (in my case, Northwestern.) I learned a lot about myself and how to interact with others while at Lawrence. While there, I met a teacher who changed my life for the better (Mr. Joseph Sheppard, aka "Shep.") I would recommend it to anyone who's seeking a top-notch boarding school experience.
