What is it?

The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) are annual tests used to measure a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.

Which Grades and Subjects?

Students in grades 3 through 8 and 10 are assessed in English language arts and math, and in grades 5, 8 and 10 in science.

How is it Scored?

Students score at one of four levels: above proficient/advanced, proficient, needs improvement and warning/failing. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level. Students must pass the grade 10 MCAS in order to graduate from high school.

North Reading High School

I have had 2 children graduate from North Reading High School. They both had different but very positive experiences. My son, who was a special needs student, was able to succeed through a lot of one-on-one assistance with his teachers. My daughter, a regular-ed student, blossomed from a shy freshman to a confident senior. The teachers and administrators were all professionals who showed us the greatest respect.
