Houghton Lake High School Reviews
As soon as your children reach high school, move from Houghton Lake school district. My family has had the worst time dealing with the schools here. If you can not move, may God help you because you do not want to go to the school for help. It starts right at the front desk. The office ladies ( and I use that word lightly ) are so rude. I am not the only parent that thinks this. Standing in the office you can hold bets on how long it will take before someone even acknowledges your presence. The teachers will be more than happy to see you at parent teacher conference, but no other time. Try to schedule an appointment and it's on their time. Heaven forbid any parent works. But you better contribute to all the sporting events or any event planned or unplanned. Be available short notice (no notice) but don't expect them to. Be available to get private education in addition to sending your children to public school. Principals, vice principals and board, don't even think about bothering them. There has even been a group established of opposers to Houghotn Lake Schools. (I am not a member) To sum it up: School functions first, contributions second, family third, personal needs don't exist.
I have mixed feeling about Houghton Lake High School and I'm sorry to say this but I have had kids that done well and graduated without any trouble but I have had 2 that have had to have special classes for and both times they always suggest altertive ed. Why because they dont want to deal with it?My children have just as much right to graduate in this school as every other student as why do they want to pawn them off to soeone else? There are many great teachers in this school system and the counsels are the best but there are those few I dont like either. But they are going to teach my child so he can graduate,I will see to that.
