About This School
Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. Summit Academy North Elementary School Reviews
Summit North Elementary has gone from a 10 to a 2 in my book over the course of the last 12 months. Just look at their 2012 MEAP test scores! Half of what they were prior to last year!! There are 32+ kids per class, the playground is so small that kids get to use it once per week, if that, due to occupancy laws. They do not have a cafeteria or a library. Yet they continue to bus in and pack students in there like sardines! It is not about education, it is all about money! My daughter has had approximately 6 sheets of homework since the beginning of the school year. They have brought in teachers who are not qualified for a lesser rate. They say they have a ZERO tolerance for bullying or violence, yet in the last month my daughter has been knocked down, choked, and given a bloody nose & to my knowledge there has been no disciplinary action whatsoever. But that may be due to the fact that the teacher doesn't pay attention, or can't pay attention due to the large class sizes! I wish we had never ever put our daughter in Summit and we will be rectifying the situation as soon as possible! Do yourself and your child a favor and RUN in the other direction!
Summit Academy is a very good district in Downriver. I have been very happy with the results and progress my children have made in Summit Academy North Elementary! They really push the currciculum there, and the staff and FACT Team(PTO) are amazing. If you are looking for a school downriver, do not send them to public school, send them to Summit Academy, it's absolutley free!
