Swan Valley Middle School
David Dunning: I believe Swan Valley Middle School is a school that cares strongly about its students and encourages parents to participate in their education and other non academic activites. Keeping in contact with parents through emails and written correspondence is important because it chalenges the parents, who choose, to keep tabs on their childs progess and stimulates a better parent child teacher relationship that in turn provides motivation for the child to obtain better grades.

What is it?
The Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) is an annual test administered in the fall of the school year and used to assess a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.
Which Grades and Subjects?
Students are assessed in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading, and writing, in grades 5 and 8 in science, and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies.
How is it Scored?
Students are rated at one of four levels:exceeded standards (level 1), met standards (level 2), basic (level 3) and apprentice (level 4). The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard (levels 1 and 2).
