South Lake Middle School
The student/teacher ratio of 19/1 is FALSE, my son is in 7th grade and there are 27-31 students per class with no teaching assistants, just a single teacher. The students are out of control, teachers GIVE out the answers in class and the majority of the kids are still failing because they don't care enough to even write down the correct answers. Fights break out several times a week. Principles/teachers claim to have a "zero tolerance" policy to bullying but when a child addresses the situation with a teacher/principle they are told, "well I didn't see it." My son came from a private school to this public school and says himself, "this is a horrible learning environment."

What is it?
The Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) is an annual test administered in the fall of the school year and used to assess a student's mastery of the state's grade-level academic standards.
Which Grades and Subjects?
Students are assessed in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading, and writing, in grades 5 and 8 in science, and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies.
How is it Scored?
Students are rated at one of four levels:exceeded standards (level 1), met standards (level 2), basic (level 3) and apprentice (level 4). The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard (levels 1 and 2).
