Last year, my son was able (with effort) to get all A's on his fourth grade report card. This year, after the first semester, he fell down into A's and B'. After second semester, he's fallen again into B's and C's.
There seems to be no sense of urgency regarding this slide. The worst grade was in reading. Seems crazy to me - my son loves reading.
I just meet with the teacher last week. Reading is not the problem - the problem is writing answers to the questions regarding the reading. The students must write the answers and turn them in on their own.
My problem is, if a kid is sliding down in marks like this, shouldn't the educators find ways to help the kid learn to complete the assignments successful. It seems the attitude is, "It's the kids responsibility to figure this stuff out."
I would have expected more. It's not OK for any kid's grades to slide so much, so quickly!
