Amanda Elzy High School

Dr. Johnetta D. Wiley: My name is Dr. Johnetta D. Wiley a proud 1980 graduate of Amanda Elzy High School. I am the principa of South High School in Columbus, Ohio. When I became the principal of this inner city school, the state test scores were 18% passage in Math and 45.3% in Reading six years ago. It has been increasing significantly each school year. now... a projected 76% and 84% respectively. I know how hard it is to overcome the stereotypes and bad press as well as low expectations. This is one of the reasons I took over my present school. We have met AYP for four years and recieved a rating of proficient for 5-6 years. I am saying all this to simply say blight cannot define us.
The school needs a visionary as implied in this quote "sight is the enemy of vision... sight is what your eyes can see... vision is what your heart sees." Give our school the visionary it needs... It will make all of the difference. Dr. Amanda Elzy told me the year that I graduated from college to come back once I had gained the knowledge that I needed and use it for my own... This probably won't come into fruition but someone will.

Amber Burough: Hi, I'm a former student at Amanda Elzy High School! I honestly can say, that I love my school. Most people talk bad or look down over us because its a black school. Its just we will have to take better care of our school and have a little more prided (talking about us students and some teashers), but all bad things will soon come to a end. One more other thing, Sometime last week I read the newspaper and seen that Greenwood Public Schools have been giving a "GRANT", I was really upset. The Leflore County School District needed that "GRANT" more then every. I know because I see every day, I lay one eye on Amanda Elzy High campus and said, "Lord send us a BIG BLESSING" meaning every word of it.
WE NEED HELP IN ALOT OF WAYS!. .
