About This School
Alternative schools are public schools that offer nontraditional education for students whose needs cannot be met in a regular, special education, or vocational school. While alternative schools are distinct from regular, special education, and vocational schools in their teaching approach or classroom environment, they can provide similar services and/or curriculum for students. Alternative schools include schools for potential dropouts, residential treatment centers for substance abuse, schools for chronic truants, and schools for students with behavioral problems. See The Learning Center's test results to learn more about school performance.

The Learning Center Reviews
Gulfport is a great place to work and learn! As one of three original Excellence For All pilot districts, we have lead the way in Common Core implementation in the state. Out-of-state parents have lamented about the rigor of our curriculum noting that their children are being challenged to become conceptual learners and critical thinkers. This is also a testament that the district holds everyone to high expectations. As a parent, Gulfport School District (GSD) was and is an easy choice. Thanks to the teachers counselors, and administration, two of my sons earned about $60,000.00 in academic, leadership, and band scholarships. The third and youngest son has requested to stay because he loves the school, its robotics program, and band. What more could a parent expect? I recommend GSD as THE education destination on the Gulf Coast.

The Learning Center inspires every student to become a problem solver, lifelong learner, and productive member of society.
The Learning Center is the alternative program for the Gulfport School District. It has a wonderful, dedicated staff who not only help students with their academic achievements but also inspire students to become productive members of society.
The Blue School under directorship of The Learning Center gives students a second chance for an education because they have had trouble adjusting to the traditional school format.
The Learning Center has a branch called the Drop-Out Prevention Center, which provides a safety net for at-risk students. Students can work online courses and/or learn the skills to receive a GED. Students taking the GED are supported with transportation if needed, and the GED cost is covered by the school district. Home visits to determine needs take place by faculty members there.
The Blue School is a branch of The Learning Center. We teach pre ged and ged. Our results are remarkable and we are serving many young people who otherwise might become drop outs.
The Learning Center is an outstanding facility that is committed to giving the best education all students enrolled.
