George Guffey Elementary School
BlackJ: George Guffey Elementary School is a fantastic school to work at as well as attend. We have dedicated teachers who go above and beyond to insure the success of all students. My own three children attended school at Guffey and were very well-prepared for their continued education at the junior high and high school level.
We have just earned the title "National School of Character". We are so proud of this accomplishment! One special way the teachers have of touching students lives outside of their own grade level is the implementation of the "Bunches" program to help foster the feeling of family and belonging. All "Bunches" groups are comprised of two students from each grade level. We meet once a month for a character building lesson and activity. Each "Bunch" will stay together for their entire career at Guffey!
We truly have stand-out teachers in our building. A 6th grade twacher and kindergarten teacher run the after-school National "Girls on the Run" progam which teaches girls in grades 3-6 the importance of staying healthy mentally and physically. They end the season by participating in a 5K in downtown St. Louis. The P.E. teacher won P.E. Teacher of the year in the St. Louis region this past year. In addition to a phenomenal K-6 curriculum program He also created an after-school Archery program. The team is the defending State champions for the last 3 years and placed in the top 20 in the National's.
These are just a few of the great things that are happening at Guffey Elementary School. I am proud to work here and always excited to tell others about it!
