Hyalite Elementary School Reviews
Leadership was awesome under the now-retired (since 2010?) principal. The first year my son attended -- when she was still present -- was great. Unfortunately, after she left the next two years it seemed there was a steady decline in learning and an increase in bullying at the school. There was also a lack of training and staffing. For instance, no school nurse to administer medicines and an apparent shortage of aides (despite what the school felt was adequate). By the time my other child was ready to enter the school we were considering all other options. Since moving to another state one of my children has gone from reading at kindergarten level to on grade level (third grade) in one year. He has exited math and science services completely and is almost fully integrated in general education. It is nothing less than amazing. Of course, it makes us seriously question the learning environment at Hyalite.
They have three different type of counselors there. Bullying is a big problem in a sense that many adults there seem to believe children are to be seen and not heard. This bullying I have seen as a child and adult problem. A lot of keeping things from parents unless on what they believe is a need to know. There are many adults covering for each other. Jobs are more important than teaching it seems like. I don't think you can really trust anyone there. Trust your gut and listen to your kids. My sons are not happy. The acedemics are also lacking and not up to the standard iI would expect. We will not be going back. I would not recommend this school.
