John F Mendoza Elementary School Reviews
To the unhappy parents below, perhaps you should talk with Miss Dita B.
Mendoza used to be a very good school when Mrs. Evans was the principle. Since mr. lago had taken over it has gone down hill. His office staff is very unpleasant all but miss Tammy she's wonderful. There is also a teacher on his staff that from my understanding was fired last year for putting his hands on a student in angerThis whole new drop off and pick up is unbelievably terrible and on the first day of school when I emailed mr. lago telling him so I recieved a smug email in return talking about student safety being most important. I agree student safety should be number one but honestly the students are in more danger now then before because of overbearing parents that crowd the gates forcing children to walk in the street to get around them. Not to mention every grade seems to have their own gate to exit from which would be fine if you were only picking up one child. I have four kids that I pick up all from different parts if the school. School let's out at 3:21 yet due to traffic and the hassle if this new dismissal system we're not getting home until at least 3:45. this school is so un orginized and really needs to try to get a new principle and send this dictator on his way
My daughter went here last year for kindergarten and is going again this year for 1st grade strictly out of convenience as I do not have a car right now. I DO NOT like this school, period. The woman with the long blonde hair behind the front desk in the office is very nice and helpful so the one star I'm obligated to give this review goes to her. I would rate for my daughter's teacher except I've never met her. Parents are not allowed on school grounds period, even to drop off their very small children to the appropriate line, which teachers do not escort even the smallest ones too(i've watched my daughter wander aimlessly in confusion every morning since school started), and after school pick-up is a disorganized mosh pit of confusion. So my daughter was sick yesterday and had to miss school and some teachers aid said to me when I picked her up that my daughter had been "very confused" on what they were learning, then proceeded to give me all her classwork and homework she had missed. When I asked if she had taken time out to explain the concept, she replied back with, "we don't have time to spend with each student 1 on 1 when they decide to miss class." I was gobsmacked. It's not like she missed a week. It was one day and they're not learning algebra. On top of that, since when is a 5-year-old with a cough and a fever considered "choosing to miss class"? I have more I don't like about this chool and It's staff but it could go on and on and I think you get the point.

Mendoza is a nice school!!! I love the teachers there. My children
come home with smart minds.
My children attended Mendoza many years ago. Today, the school seems to have problems keeping teachers. From what I have heard, moral there is low among the staff. I'd probably not send my kids there today.
