My daughter is a Junior here. She's of very average intelligence and enrolled in a normal curriculum on the Regent's diploma track (the type of diploma required to be considered for admission to a four-year university). The curriculum is astoundingly pedestrian and severely lacking in challenging students to think and learn. For example, I don't feel any History teacher at the High-School level should be using worksheet packets as a primary pedagogy, but that's exactly what she gets in that class. Her English teacher gives us lip service at the open house event about Common Core Standards and preparation for Proficiency exams, then goes on to (ineffectively) teach nothing but disjointed literature lessons for the next four weeks. Needless to say, I'm very underwhelmed by the quality of teaching available in this largely affluent neighborhood.
