Double Diamond Elementary School Reviews
The school is good by Nevada standards. In general, Nevada public schools are totally underfunded and an embarrassment, but there are several teachers at Double Diamond that care a lot and are very encouraging. If you are an attentive parent, who gets involved, reads to your child and helps them with their homework, they will be fine.
My daughter has received straight A's, has won several school-wide science fairs and has never been "bullied for being smart." Bullying goes on at every school. It always has, and frankly seems to be the latest trendy, overblown cause.
We are encouraged by the efforts of the new superintendent, who seems to be turning the district around. He is looking to expand kindergarten back to full day, and get DD back on a traditional school schedule—instead of the ridiculous year-round one they have now.
The school yard facilities are below par. No grass for the kids to run on. Not a lot of shade to protect them from the intense Nevada sun and winters. However, the overall education seems to be getting better as this fairly new school finds its stride.
The school and children are good. We work very hard at overcoming obsticals placed in our way. Our principal is in his second year and it has been a struggle for all to initiate the changes made with new programs. We are often one of the schools that pilot new programs brought into our district. Students are hard workers and the parents are a good support for the staff members.
This school is a nightmare! The teachers are happy all right but they don't see what is right under their noses! No bully situation? Are you kidding me? The bully situation is this. Any kid who is smarter in any respect than the majority of the class is immediately tormented and BULLIED until either they leave the school or capitulate to the class. The lack of teacher focus and too much competition in the classes makes it so that kids who are really smart don't have a chance to reach their full potential without fear of brutal tormenting and sometimes extreme violence! Never send your child to this school!
