St Mary's Hall - Doane Academy
5My son has been going to this school since the sixth grade. I chose this school, primarily because of its 1 to 15 classroom ratio, its willingness to accomodate students of all skill levels, and its values based on religion. So far, I have been very pleased on all three counts, particularly the emphasis on service to others. I have very much been involved with my son's academics. The faculty at this school have been more than willing to meet with me beyond the parent-teacher conferences, provide tutoring after school, and address any issues. This school has a variety of activities where the students can meet their commitment to service. It is up to the parents and their children to discuss the activities and select which ones to participate in advance of the school year after their academic schedule and choices are set up.

1The students are involved in too many activities and academics are a low priority. Many of the graduating seniors drop out of college the first year completely or switch to a community college because they are unable to handle basic english, writing and math. The school's mission is all over the place.

St Mary's Hall - Doane AcademyMrs. Cruz: My daughter went to St Mary's Hall from 2nd grade-8th grade. I would have kept her there, unfortunately, it was getting expensive for us for high school. I had my youngest from Kindergarten-3rd grade. I made the biggest mistake in taking her out and placing her in another school. I and my children enjoyed the years they had in the school. I believe that soccer would be best if it started in 3rd grade. The teachers care very much for the kids and their parents as well.

1Academics dont seem to be the top priority anymore. Too many extra curricular requirements placed on the students. Lack of discipline and direction of the school. Too bad, some great teachers, a few really bad teachers. Looking around at other schools for the high school years.

5Our son has been going to Doane Academy since Pre-K and is now in the fourth grade. The teachers and faculty are great, they give a hundred and ten percent everyday. The small class sizes and the one on one attention the teachers give are out of this world. We looked at many other private schools in the Burlington and Mercer County area and we felt this was the best school for our son. He is accelerating in all his subjects. We couldn’t be any happier with Doane Academy. It is about the academics and not about sports that get the students to great colleges.

1Marsha: I'm afraid I have to agree with the other parents that have reviewed the school previously. What a complete and ongoing disappointment. We just had to take our daughter out as the emphasis is so clearly focused on boys now. But even more appalling is that over the years they've constantly asked parents, friends and alumni to donate as much as they could. Yet none of the program or facilites improvements they have repeatedly promised have ever been implemented (despite a massive foundation grant a few years back). Beyond a few small cosmetic changes everything remains unchanged. We feel a deep sense of disappointment with the school since we volunteered so much of our time and effort to help them grow and they failed our daughter so miserably.

1We had our daughter here for some time but, as parents, just couldn;t keep her in any longer. Nice administration and teachers but very limited on opportunities. When she was younger it just didn't matter as much but as she got older it made a real difference when they only have a couple of sports and less than challenging classes. The "Interim" program they've touted for years basically turned into a glorified class trip. Not encouraging. They kept telling us how they were going to improve the whole school but it never seemd to amount to more than window dressing.

1Tim Tardin: Not a bad school, its just plain mediocre. We moved here and transferred our son to St. Mary's from a private school, assuming the worst about the public school system. We became very frustrated with the very small number of sport and extracurricular offerings and academics that just weren't up to the level we expected. After what we experienced we figured it couldn't hurt and moved him into the local public school. What a relief! Much better academics and a lot more sports and extracurriculars. The people at St. Mary's are nice but the school needs some kind of a shakeup since it doesn't even compete/compare with the local public schools.
