Coastal Learning Center Reviews

Excellent Program!!!!

By a Parent on

My daughter has been attending Coastal Learning Center since April 2013. Before going to Coastal she had been kicked out of 3 schools. She has both learning and behavioral problems. I have been to court for her because she refused to go to school. Before Coastal she was very destructive, disrespectful, she put holes in my walls and tore my household apart. I reached out to several agencies but nobody seemed to get through to her, she stole from mentors and ran away several times. Since she has been at Coastal she is a new person, very respectful following my house rules and never misses school. I attribute her positive improvements to the good people of this school. The counselors and teachers are wonderful. The staff understands her disability and they continue to encourage and work with her. This school gets *****5 stars

my son flourishes in this program

I am a parent of a 15 year old boy who has been at coastal learning center for approximately 2 years. He just enjoys going to school each and every day. I have found the staff and administration to be sincere and keep the best interests of my son first and foremost. Communication between the school and home is excellent and my phone calls are always returned with promptness. He not only has grown academically but his social skills have flourished. I highly recommend this private school for specials needs students.

My son finished his senior year at CLC during the summer of 2013.  The CLC staff tracked down my sons scattered credits through his many different schools.  They had the time and patience to genuinely know my child and make a difference.  As a result he has graduated with honors and is already attending Brookdale this fall. THANK YOU!!! CLC my son and I will never forget what you have done for our family.

I miss it there! If it wasn't for the great teachers who really understood me I don't know where I would've ended up. First it took some adjustin but once I got to know the teachers we were cool. I learned a lot once I got myself togetrg...I matured there. I definitely recommend this school especially for kids like me who have a hard time learning and are really active. Great school and great program the kids work at the school they get to buy the things they want with their points. The staff is caring and really work hard for the kids. My son was a nightmare when he started at Coastal. He was stealing lying not going to school hanging out ion the streets and failing all classes. Coastal has turned him around he gets up with no problem and goes to school every day he is like a new kid he is doing great thanks to Coastal Learning Center.

My son is an 8 yr old white child in the 3rd grade. He suffers from extreme adhd, pdd ocd and odd; among other things. Lets face it, our kids arent here becuase they will be the next President or world famous. Astronaut. However, they are here so they can learn how to behave among society while battling their mental illnesses. When a district feels it cannot keep a child contained in the class for the benefit of himself and others a recommendation is made to move into a school like this. Your district should have allowed you to look at, research and feel comfortable with the school YOU choose. If you THAT unhappy, move your child. It is your right. But before you slander a school that is there to guide your child in a positive direction, all while your child is having to be restrained, remember this is your choice. Also, to the lady with the kid and the cell phone: leave it home! School isnt a place for cell phones anyway.

School is a warehouse for all the "bad kids", little to no education goes on, and they aren't afraid to suspend a kid for several days at a time.  It is training for jail or "Gen Pop 101" as I like to call it.  They should really close these schools down and just call it a glorified babysitting service.

The school participates in planned obsolescence of its staff. Apart from a few family and investor friends who have steady work, they employ entry level teachers and support people who are let go after a few years. They care neither for the people they employ nor the students, but only for the cash flow they pocket. Not a good choice

This school was terrible. I had to pull my son out of this school becasue he was injured by security staff. I have read the other review as well and all I have to say is it is completely true. It is chaos in the hallways that scares me. My son was screaming in pain for them to stop twisting his arm and neck  and they refused even with me there. He was being compliant and did not threaten them in any way. According to my son and his friend, he got restrained because he would not give the security staff his $400 phone. I have already talked to the principal about his phone becase last year one of the security staff broke his phone and it was never replaced, and the principal told me and my son that he did not have to hand it in. It is also true about the racial discrimination over 90% of the students are black and VERY DISRESPECTFUL. My son never treats the staff with disrespect and somehow is treated like a monster. Even his teacher and friends say he is VERY respectful to all of the staff there. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL IT REALLY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!!!

This school is terrible. Mainly because the security guards there do not know where to keep thier hands and neglect to listen to the students when they say they will cooperate. The academics are far from "on par" with mainstream school as they have my son doing 6th grade work when he is a senior. Another problem is the students... Atleast 90% of them are black or hispanic and most of them are in gangs and will not listen to the staf there. I DO NOT recommend sending your children here under ay circumstances. It is a VERY BAD SCHOOL!
