I am very happy with OLM.  I would like to thank all the wonderful teachers for their dedication.

I'm a proud parent of a 4th grader at Our Lady and I think the teachers and curriculum is still outstanding. It's a revelation for my child to come home and be enthusiastic about thier teacher and what they've learned. While I have a minimal understanding of the issues the school is going through, I don't think that the students are being effected directly by the politics of what's going on, and in many ways, that's more important for me.

I am sincerely dismayed by some of the comments posted about OLM.  I have found it to be a wonderful school!  The teachers and principal have been nothing but welcoming and understanding of my child's special needs.  I have worked closely with them to determine the best way to help my child and we have seen much success in just these few weeks of school.  The teachers are always available for extra help and work hard to build the children's confidence in academics and beyond.  I mean all the teachers from Pre-K through 8th.  My children love their teachers and can't wait to go to school everyday!
The curriculum is beyond my expectations.  Students are learning difficult concepts in a fun and creative way.  Between the use of the smart boards, math manipulatives, and many other types of learning enrichment I feel that OLM is doing everything possible to ensure its students a bright and successful future.
Come and see for yourself.

OLM has so much potential and could be a great Catholic School.  The primary teacher's are outstanding and the Kindergarten teacher is fabulous.  However, once the children enter into the middle school grades all of that compassion is thrown away.  There is absolutely no support for parents and many of the teachers just simply get defensive.   There is so much emphasis on grades and the State tests (the public school way), which is important....but most choose a Catholic school for the respect, love and Christian guidance that goes along with a strong curriculum.  You can not have one without the other.  OLM only teaches to the "A" student and there is definitely a lack of morale, common sense and ethics.  The middle school teacher's (4th and up) simply dictate, recite facts and give tests.  Anyone can use method.  They do not teach to today's children.  Having smartboards in a school, especially a preschool (not part of the basics) does not make the school great.  It may be impressive, but how the children are treated is much more important in today's society.  Middle school children need to build there self-esteem, not have it broken down.  The "care" is no longer a part of OLM's curriculum and it is so sad.

Unfortunately, OLM is no longer the caring, warm environment it use to be.  It doesn't matter how many smartboards there are, or how lovely the campus is, if the environment is negative.  The lack of a positive and welcoming leader has led to a downward spiral in the enrollment.  Some teachers are allowed to treat children abruptly and without respect.  Parents are not a welcomed sight anywhere near, nevermind being welcomed in the building.  Makes you wonder why....The teachers that have been a part of the school for years are still wonderful, but the future looks bleak.  So, for the teachers that have been a part of the history, they are wonderful, but the new administration is driving the school to a sad end.

Well .. OLM is going bankrupt due to many factors. Mainly lack of programs , terrible curriculum for students and money going missing.
Case in point enrollment went dow by 30% in one year ( from 110 to 80 students)  this  shows that something is really wrong with OLM

My family and I love OLM!  Our children are having a great experience at OLM.  The faculty is deeply committed and there is tremendous support from the community.  Each student is valued.  Classes are small and OLM is a place where everybody knows your child's name.  You really get the sense that everyone in the OLM community; faculty, students, and the other families are "routing" for your child's success.  It is a wonderful atmosphere to learn and grow.   The campus and facility are gorgeous.  The amenities are too many to list.    OLM has a large number of John Hopkins scholars and its graduates have performed exceptionally well at the high school level.  The preschool program is outstanding!  OLM also has signficant service, theatre, sports and enrichment clubs.  We really feel that OLM offers the "whole package" and would recommend it to all families.

I totally disagree with the previous poster, who is giving completely inaccurate information.  OLM is a fantastic school filled with wonderful, caring teachers and staff.  The Pre-K program is outstanding and filled to capacity!   OLM is in fact a Star School of the diocese.  The facility is absolutely beautiful and spotless.  There are SmartBoards in every classroom 1-8.  The Early Childhood Center shares a SmartBoard, with plans for additional SmartBoards to come.  Go and see for yourself ... you will be impressed.  OLM just gets better every year.  It is a true gem among the Paterson Diocese Catholic Schools.

This school has enrollment dropping significantly in the past few years.  There used to be a waiting list for the PreK and Kindergarten grades and now old school families are leaving the school in droves.  Partly because the economy is not good and partly because of a weak former principal who made many poor decisions. There is no push for getting the upper grade students into top rated private schools anymore.   But recently the overall feeling around the school is very low morale and the the caring environment for the children that used to be prevalent.  If someone is considering to send their child to a local private school, then it would be a better idea to check into St. Anthony's School in Butler, as they have been rated as a Star School by the diocese.  OLM has never been given this high rating in its history.

"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
