Bernalillo High School Reviews

By a Current Student on

The school has a bit of trouble assisting advanced students in achievement. A large portion of attention is given to athletes and students whom require additional support, which is understandable for the latter. The schedule is a bit difficult to manipulate for academically competitive students. Having issues with the schedule myself, I see that it is a result of a combination of a minimal amount of advanced classes and lack of flexibility with those same classes. In addition to having few classes optimal for competitive students, there are also a few of those classes taught poorly (the standards of an AP class are not always met). This can be "patched" by getting to know the teachers. This school has some of the best teachers who will absolutely devote their time to assist and inspire students. Asking student's about their opinions of teachers is often unreliable; rather, talk to teachers and connect with the ones that believe in students. There is at least one amazing teacher in each building, one that is worth rushing through lunch so you can have an enlightening discussion with. Even if the class does not give a weighted credit, the teacher can make the time you spend in class well worth it. There are many complex issues with this school beyond the scope of this review, but this school is still the school to go to if you would like to be taught by someone with an amazing background who will inspire and support you for potentially the rest of your life. If you would like a more in-depth explanation of the school, find a student or teacher who is unafraid to speak their mind. There are students who participate in certain on-campus clubs (mostly the academically-involved ones); these highly devoted students are often the ones who have much to say, both negative and positive, about the school.
