Benjamin N Cardozo High School

I am currently a senior at this school and I've attended this school since I was a freshman, so you can trust me when I say that this is the one of the best schools in Queens, NY. There is a wide variety of classes to choose from and at many different levels: regular, honors, Davinci (for math and science only), AP.  You can always challenge yourself.  Also, the teachers for the most part are good and knowledgeable!  If you are having trouble in class, many of the teachers are willing to tutor you during their break.  This school really tries its best to prepare its students for the regents exam.  During the Spring term, students may stay after school twice a week for extra regents help.  These extra regents help classes are free and taught by actual teachers.  If that's not enough, students having trouble in a class may sign up get tutored by an Arista student in the library during their free period.  Arista is a special program at Cardozo for the students excelling in their classes and willing to commit hours to community service.

There are many different types of students at Cardozo.  It is very diverse.  There are students from all nationalities and religions.  Everyone gets along here! The school is also not at all separated into their own cliques. Everyone hangs out with each other despite nationality or popularity.  From what I can see, hardly any bullying happens.

There are many clubs and teams at Cardozo, from the Badminton Club to Red Cross Club to Chess Club . . . you name it!  And if you don't find your club on the list, you can start the club yourself!  Many of the teams at Cardozo are also the best in the city.  For instance, Cardozo's Science Olympiad Team always places first, second, or third place; above prestigious schools like Stuyvesant.  Our athletics are great also, especially the boys' basketball team and girls' volleyball team.  The school has great school spirit.  During its major sporting events, Cardozo's mascot the bulldog and cheerleaders will support its teams.  Throughout the school year performance events are also held in the school's auditorium to showcase how talented this school is.  The students' favorite performances often include dances done by members of Cardozo's recognized Dance Program.  Students not part of the chorus, band, or dance program may also showoff their talent by auditioning for a spot in the Multicultural, Oh-Snap (poetry/rap open mic), Talent Show events held throughout the year.  For students who would like to feel like a model, students may also sign up for Cardozo's fashion club runway event.  Cardozo students could always find something to do to get involved!

This school is really safe.  The security guards and deans are always around in the hallways to keep traffic flowing peacefully.  Which is needed and helpful because Cardozo is crowded.  Many of the security guards and deans also get along with the students and greet them in the hallways.  However, they do their job very well. If you break the school rules they will give you a warning or punish you right on the spot.

Cardozo does a great job assisting students with their college application process.  Cardozo hosts a College Fair every year consisting of over a hundred colleges.  Students also meet with their college advisor several times to help them make the right college choice.  Orientations are also given to the students about how to apply.  The advisors at the college office are knowledgeable and experienced in the college process.  They know what they are doing.  The college office is also always open for questions.

The atmosphere outside of school is great.  There are many school parks within blocks of cardozo where you can play handball or basketball.  There are also nice hangout places a block away from Cardozo, like McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, etc.

I'm a freshman at the school as of now. Summer break is coming in about a month and all my teachers have been great. Some teachers are not as lenient as others, but their teaching methods are all great. If you're in any accelerated (honors, AP, davinci, etc.) classes, expect them to be more challenging than regular classes. This is a great school and most freshman/sophomore teachers are great also.

I am a senior at Cardozo and I couldn't feel more prepared to go to college. My teachers are constantly challenging me and most academic departments offer tutoring throughout the day. Cardozo expects you to be an active learner. If you need help in a particular subject, they expect you to "take the bull by the horns" and do something about it.
The after school activities are awesome because there is something for everyone. If you do not find something for you, then you can find a faculty advisor and start a club/ team. Starting a club is easier than it sounds and is definitely worthwhile. The beginning of freshman year can be intimidating during the first few days. Eventually, you get over it. Most of my friends and I take the same classes so I know everybody in my classes. (On the first day of school, when somebody walked into my Advanced Placement Government class, everyone else would shout out there name and give them a round of applause.)
